Should Your Company Use LinkedIn® Showcase Pages?

Decide whether a LinkedIn® Showcase Page is appropriate for a brand, business unit or long-term initiative, or whether one strong Company Page is the better choice.

LinkedIn® Company Page Management - Should Your Company Use LinkedIn® Showcase Pages?

A LinkedIn® Showcase Page is a child Page associated with a parent LinkedIn Page. It is designed to represent a distinct brand, business unit or long-term organizational initiative with an audience of its own.

The important question is not whether you can create one. It is whether the organization can justify and maintain another LinkedIn presence.

Use Showcase Pages for enduring audience differences

A Showcase Page can make sense when a part of the organization has a clearly distinct audience, proposition and ongoing content requirement. LinkedIn positions Showcase Pages for enduring brands, business units or initiatives rather than short-term marketing campaigns.

Do not create one merely to organize your content

Every additional Page creates another audience to grow, another content stream to maintain and another set of analytics and administrators to manage. If the same people care about the parent organization and the proposed Showcase subject, separating them may make management harder without creating much value.

Understand the separation

Showcase Pages have their own followers and Page activity and are managed as distinct child Page presences. LinkedIn currently allows up to 25 Showcase Pages under a parent Page, but that ceiling is not a recommendation to create them.

Think about organizational structure

A Showcase Page is not a substitute for deciding whether a subsidiary, acquired business or other entity should have its own Company Page. If the decision involves a genuine parent-company, subsidiary or acquisition relationship, the Guide to LinkedIn® Affiliated Pages explains that separate structure. Use Showcase Pages when the child-Page model genuinely matches what the organization is trying to represent.

A simple decision test

Ask whether the proposed subject has a distinct long-term audience, enough ongoing material to justify its own publishing program, and somebody responsible for managing it. If any of those are missing, the parent Page is probably the stronger home.

Your task

List any brands, business units or initiatives that you think might deserve a Showcase Page. For each one, identify its distinct audience, ongoing content supply and responsible owner. If you cannot clearly identify all three, keep it within the main Company Page for now.

Once the Page structure and core information are right, the next job is to build a publishing system that gives the intended audience a reason to pay attention.
